Limerick win Dublin U15 Blitz
report by Paul Beecher
It was the last blitz of the season and you would know by the quality of the teams that everyone wanted to finish the Intercounty season on a high.
It was great to see teams from Down and Antrim as well as the old guard teams Kilkenny, Limerick, Galway & Clare. Dublin as always had a strong team and were hopeful of a good performance. The venue was Craobh Chiaran on the North side of Dublin where the pitches and the conditions generally were in great condition. The wind was always going to be a factor as hurriance Katia reached our shores, but it did not stop the girls from displaying some fine skills throughout the field.
The blitz was divided into 3 sections for the day with Dublin, Kilkenny, Galway and Limerick contesting the U15 D1 section. Clare, Kilkenny 2 & Dublin 2 were in U15 D2 and Dublin, Galway, Down & Antrim contested the U14 section.
The blitz started at 10.30 and the final game was played at 3.30 There were 3 pitches available and each County had a dressingroom. Refereeing standard were high and to the satisfaction of all team managers.
There was no shortage of food as lots of sandwiches and drinks were supplied by all the Dublin parents who also looked after all the catering and tidying up.
The U15 D1 section was very competitive with Limerick winning out in the final against Dublin. Kilkenny defeated Galway to take the Plate.
The U15 D2 was won by Clare who defeated Kilkenny 2 in the final by the narrowest of margins after beating Dublin in a playoff to reach the final.
The U14 section was a lively affair with both Antrim and Down proving to be a handful for both Galway & Dublin. In the end it was a Galway & Antrim final with Galway taking the Cup.
It was a great days entertainment with thrilling displays of camogie shown by all teams. Thanks to the Dublin girls and to all the teams that travelled for a really great day.
