A Game of Our Own: Camogie’s Story was officially launched by the Lord Mayor of Cork, Councillor Terry Shannon, last night (Thursday, March 29th) at a Mayoral reception which also included the President of the Camogie Association Joan O’Flynn and author of A Game of Our Own: Camogie’s Story, Mary Moran.
Speaking at last night’s event President of the Camogie Association Joan O’Flynn said:
“On behalf of the Camogie Association, we are delighted that Cork City has bestowed the honour of a Mayoral reception on the Association to mark the publication of A Game of Our Own: Camogie’s Story and also on the occasion of Annual Congress in Cork.
This launch is also particularly appropriate as the author of A Game of Our Own: Camogie’s Story, Mary Moran, is a long-term resident of Cork and has represented the county with distinction in her many roles within the Camogie Association.
The tribute is also fitting as it honours the Cork and Carraig na bhFear man who gave Camogie its name, Tadhg O’Donoghue and his sister Cáit. Cáit was captain of the Keating Branch of the Gaelic League who played in the first ever competitive camogie match in Navan in 1904 and was the first organiser of the Camogie Association.”
Lord Mayor of Cork City Council, Cllr Terry Shannon said:
“We are delighted that the Camogie Association has chosen Cork as the venue for their annual Congress. The county has a long and proud tradition of camogie and tonight’s event highlights the enormous stature in which the game is held by the people of Cork.
A Game of Our Own: Camogie’s Story is a fantastic book, documenting the development of one of Ireland’s most popular games. I highly recommend it as a fantastic read for camogie and sports fans alike.”

A Game of Our Own: Camogie’s Story was officially launched by the Camogie Association at Croke Park on December 15th 2011 followed by a series of provincial launches in Ulster and Connacht.
