The second semi-final proved to be a nail biting encounter as Trim progress to the Senior Final where they will be in search of a Meath Senior Championship Title. They will hope to bridge a gap of nine years having won their last Senior Title in 2000.
Topping the table on points throughout this years Championship gave Trim the advantage going into this game, but Killyon were not just there to make up numbers as they pushed Trim to the edge and gave all spectators something to cheer about.
Killyon’s Katie Connolly was first out of the traps as she got the opening score within 30 seconds a point from play. Their was also some good play from Killyons Lisa Foley at centre field & Katie Connolly was unlucky with another attempt. Trim’s Dearbhla O’Carroll pointed from play to get Trim started as they took a little longer to settle to their task.
Both teams shared a number of wides before Trim found their form and registered a number of points from play with some fine scores coming from Lynn Winters, Ashling Fagan, Katie Hackett & Linda Telford all grabbing two points a piece. Killyon did not look like they had an answer for they Trim forwards as they seemed to loose their shape, as Trim went ahead. Aoife Maguire did bring Killyon back somewhat with her free taking as she pointed from three placed balls to leave the score at half time Trim 0-11 Killyon 0-4.
After the restart both teams gave a great display as the game went down to they wire. Trims corner forward Katie Hackett can take credit for Trim advancing to the Senior Final as she got the crucial scores of the game when Trim needed them. Aoife Maguire Killyon impressed with two points from play and the introduction of Maudanne Foley for Killyon helped. They play was intense as both sides battled to gain advantage and with no score for about ten minutes, it was Linda Telford Trim who broke the dead lock with a well taken point.
The turning point of the game came with 12 minutes remaining where Katie Connolly got the first goal of the game when she blasted to the Trim net. Killyon enjoyed a good spell after this score during which they should have scored more than they did, they Trim defense line stood firm and Killyon were awarded a penalty after Maudanne Foley was brought down. Killyon Full Back Sharon Raleigh stepped up to take what was a cracking shot to the top corner to put a point between the sides.
The pressure was on as Trim looked to finish Killyon off, and Katie Hackett did not let her team down when she turned and headed for goal where she pointed as Trim mentors breathed a sigh of relief. Trim finish off the scoring with a free from Edel Guy and Dearbhla O’Carroll helped her backs out on a number of occasions which gave Katie Hackett the advantage when she got the last score of the game and she helped bring her team a little closer to a Senior Title.
