On Saturday May 16th, through the wind, rain and the unnatural spells of sunshine that is Ireland today, 22 Camogie teams from all around the country travelled to Offaly to participate in the 2009 Mini Feile Blitz Day. The idea behind this Blitz Day was to create an environment of competitive matches for all Offaly & Laois teams that are participating in Feile na nGael 2009 and to create an atmosphere of participation before Feile. An invitation was sent to a number of clubs from around the country to participate in this Blitz Day. Unfortunately the weather upset arrangements, as we had to switch to 2 venues on the day, with Tullamore unfortunately having to close their pitch due to flooding. However, Tullamore have always been very forthcoming for Camogie fixtures in the past and must be commended for their support to Cumann CamogaÝochta na nGael. Great credit is due to both Banagher and Coolderry for their hosting of the event in such difficult circumstances and to top-notch standards. It was a very successful day, even with our wintery weather conditions in the middle of May! Some very competitive games were played and all participants received 3-4 games on the day. It was very enjoyable and coincidentally some of the Laois and Offaly teams from 2008 were playing against teams they had hosted last year, some fond memories were shared. Great credit is due to the visiting teams that travelled long distances on the day, including 3 teams from Wexford, 2 Wicklow, a team from Clare, Waterford, Dublin and Kildare.
MÝle buÝochas to all involved in the organising of this event, to the referees that weathered the storm, club mentors and officials for all their efforts and especially to Banagher and Coolderry Gaa Clubs.
Wishing all teams the very best in Feile na nGael 2009.
Venue 1 – Banagher Gaa club will host Division 2 & 3 teams
