Six months on from the launch of their Club Development Plan, Donaghmore Ashbourne Camogie club, Meath are reaping the rewards of their ambitious blue-print.

Aside, from the small matter of the adult senior camogie team, creating an historic first by claiming the 2011 Intermediate County title, inroads are being made at under-age level with the launch of a schools coaching initiative at primary level.

Following a number of approaches to primary schools in the local area, Gaelscoil na Cille, embraced the opportunity of an eight week camogie coaching programme, for second and third class, under the tutelage of club players Aideen Ferry and Roisin Williams. Co-incidentally, a number of players have since graduated to the under-age playing ranks of the club.

Plans are in place to introduce the coaching programme to other local primary schools in the Donaghmore Ashbourne catchement area, with a view to having all schools competing in Cumann na mBunscol by 2015.

Special thanks to Gaelscoil na Cille Principal Padraig O’hÉarán, and muinteoirí Clár, Harriet and Marysia.
