Naas 6-5 Leixlip 0-7

Naas started the game the stronger. A quick goal by the Naas forward Sinead Hoban seemed to settle them.  Some great passes down the centre of the Naas team resulted in a superb goal by Sinead O’Brien this was followed by a well taken Rebecca Sheehan point from a free.  At this point Leixlip started to attack and certain shot on goal was brilliantly saved by Niamh Burke guarding the Naas goals.  Another attack on the Leixlip goal resulted in a second goal by Sinead O’Brien.  Naas were now leading 2-2 to no score when Shona Fagan slotted home a third goal for the home side.  Again Leixlip came back on the attack and again the Naas goalie kept the sheet clean. Some great play outfield from Liz Graham resulted in Aoife Caulfield pointing two great scores. This was followed by a hat trick from O’Brien.  Leixlip battled on and scored two points from the stick of Clodagh Farrell. The half ended with Naas leading 4-4 to 0-2.

Leixlip zoomed in on goals at the start of the second half but once again Burke was at the ready.  The pressure was on the Naas back line but they held tight. The great effort by Roisin Mellet, Sinead Keogh, Amy Moran and Rebecca Sheehan who covered every blade of grass kept Leixlip at bay.  Clodagh Farrell scored another five points for Leixlip and put in a great effort for her team.

Not to be outdone, the gallant O’Brien for Naas cancelled Farrell’s points by scoring a further two goals to bring her tally for the night to five. One last rush on the Leixlip defence lresulted in a point from Annalee Murphy for the town. This left the final score Naas 6-5 Leixlip 0-7. The outstanding goal-keeping skills of the 14 year old Naas net minder Niamh Burke earned her player of the match.
