Round 5 of the Liberty Insurance All-Ireland Senior Championship throws in this weekend. This weekend’s clashes will ultimately decide who progresses in this year’s competition.

Group 1 is the most competitive group of the two with Cork, Wexford, Offaly and Limerick all contesting for spots in the Semi-Finals/Quarter-Finals, depending on how this weekend’s results go. Cork who face Limerick this weekend are top of the group as well as having a higher score difference than the rest. Wexford and Offaly will be fighting for second spot with very little between both of them on score difference. Limerick may be in contention of progressing if they beat Cork and put up a high score against them and depending on other results.

Group 2 sees Kilkenny on top on score difference. With both table topping Kilkenny and Galway facing each other this weekend it will be a battle for top spot and a place in the Semi-Finals. Third spot is still up for grabs with Tipperary currently in third position. However, Dublin play Derry this weekend where they could claim third spot if they secure a victory and put a high score on the board.

Group winners proceed directly to Semi-Finals. (To be broadcast live on RTÉ One on Saturday, August 13th from Nowlan Park, Kilkenny)

Quarter-Finals – 2nd place in Group 1 v 3rd place in Group 2 & 2nd place in Group 2 v 3rd place in Group 1 (Saturday, July 30th, Times and Venues TBC)

Criteria for teams finishing on equal points:

When competitions are run on a single round league basis and when teams finish on equal points at the end of a competition and when one or more teams can progress to the next stage of the competition, overall score difference will first apply:

·         Overall score difference is determined by scores against deducted from scores for in every game played in the group. Scores for and against teams who conceded a game or games in the group will be fully disregarded in determining overall score difference. The team with the highest (net) result progresses.

·         If teams remain on equal rankings after step (a) above: A playoff game(s) will take place to determine who progresses. Extra time will apply in such games.
