Previews – Liberty Insurance All-Ireland Senior Championship

Saturday June 10th

Liberty Insurance All-Ireland Senior Championship, Group 1

Dublin v Clare
The Dubs will be looking to improve on their League performance after collecting just a solitary win in the group stage against Wexford. New boss, former Kilkenny hurler David Herity, will be hoping to get off to a good start against a close rival for a knockout-stage spot. Likewise Clare picked up just a single win in the League against Meath and will be targeting an opening day away win to set them up to challenge to progress from the group stages this year.

Referee: Owen Elliott (Antrim)
Venue: Parnells GAA, Coolock
Throw-in: 2.30pm

Waterford v Kilkenny
Waterford face a daunting opening match in this year’s Championship as they host reigning champions and recent League champions Kilkenny. Na Déise performed admirably in this year’s League campaign claiming an impressive win away to Dublin as well as performing strongly in most matches. Kilkenny will be full of confidence going into this campaign, particularly having already secured this year’s League Division 1 title and will be the team to beat as All-Ireland champions.

Referee: Eamon Cassidy (Derry)
Venue: Walsh Park, Waterford
Throw-in: 2.30pm

Liberty Insurance All-Ireland Senior Championship, Group 2

Limerick v Offaly
Limerick reached the League Semi-Finals before losing to Cork and will hope to replicate this form as they try to progress from the group stages for the first time since returning to Senior level. Offaly will be looking to build on their League performances which saw them win two and lose two matches as they finished in third place in their group. Having made the Quarter-Finals in 2016 replicating this will be a minimum target for them.

Referee: Cathal Egan (Cork)
Venue: The Gaelic Grounds, Limerick
Throw-in: 2.30pm

Tipperary v Cork
Tipp were unlucky not to reach the League Semi-Finals missing out to eventual champions Kilkenny only by virtue of score difference having both finished with 3 wins to their name. Cork had a strong League campaign winning all of their matches on their way to the Final before eventually suffering a narrow defeat to Kilkenny in the Final. Having seen Kilkenny stop their bid for a famous three-in-a-row last September Cork will be raring to bounce back in this year’s Championship.

Referee: Ray Kelly (Kildare)
Venue: The Ragg
Throw-in: 2.30pm
