Previews – Liberty Insurance All-Ireland Senior Championship

Saturday June 17th

Liberty Insurance All-Ireland Senior Championship, Group 1

Clare v Waterford
Clare will be looking to bounce back from an opening day defeat to Dublin last weekend in a match which they’d have hoped to pick up an important win. Conceding 3 goals to the Dubs cost them dearly and this is one area they’ll need to improve on this weekend. Waterford suffered a heavy defeat on the opening weekend, albeit to the reigning All-Ireland champions Kilkenny. With Galway to come in their next match they will be targeting a positive result in this match to give themselves a realistic chance of making the knockout stages.

Referee: Cathal Egan (Cork)
Venue: Cusack Park, Ennis
Throw-in: 2.30pm

Dublin v Galway
The Dubs are on a high following last weekend’s impressive victory against a strong Clare side. They will be buoyed in particular by their second half display as they came from 4 points down at the interval to win by 3 points. This is Galway’s opening match and they will hope to get off the mark with a win as they look to avenge last year’s cruel Semi-Final exit having been within a puck of a sliotar from an All-Ireland Final berth. They performed well in this year’s National League reaching the Semi-Finals, which bodes well for their Championship challenge.

Referee: Liz Dempsey (Kilkenny)
Venue: Parnells GAA, Coolock
Throw-in: 2.30pm
