Previews – Liberty Insurance All-Ireland Senior Championship Round 3

Saturday July 1st

Liberty Insurance All-Ireland Senior Championship, Group 1

Galway v Waterford
Galway backed up their impressive league form with a comprehensive victory over Dublin in their opening championship match. The Tribeswomen racked up an impressive 3-18 against the Dubs and manager Mark Dunne will be hoping for more of the same from his side. They face a Waterford side who have struggled so far in this year’s campaign with back-to-back losses against tough opposition in Kilkenny and Clare. The Déise will hope for a big performance when they travel to the West aiming to keep their championship Quarter-Final hopes alive.

Referee: Cathal Egan (Cork)
Venue: Kenny Park, Athenry
Throw-in: 3.45pm

Kilkenny v Clare – Double-header with Round 1 All-Ireland Hurling Championship between Kilkenny v Limerick at 7.00pm
Reigning All-Ireland champions Kilkenny will be looking to add to their opening day success against Waterford when they face the Banner County on Saturday. The Cats are full of confidence having already secured this year’s League title and it will take a very impressive outfit to take them down. Clare quickly bounced back from their opening day defeat to Dublin with a much needed victory over Waterford. Clare’s form has been mixed so far this year and they will need their very best if they are going to shock Kilkenny.

Referee: Owen Elliot (Antrim)
Venue: Nowlan Park, Kilkenny
Throw-in: 5.00pm

Liberty Insurance All Ireland Senior Championship (Group 2)

Cork v Wexford
This is a crunch tie in Group 2 between two heavyweights who have both started their campaigns with a 100% record. Cork have been far superior in both outings in this year’s Championship with wins against Tipperary and most recently against Limerick. Orla Cotter and Katrina Mackey have been in fine form for the Rebels. Wexford got their campaign off to winning ways last weekend with an impressive display against Offaly as they began the post Kate Kelly era. Wexford will be looking for revenge on the Rebels after they knocked them out at the semi-final stage in last year’s Championship.

Referee: Ray Kelly (Kildare)
Venue: Páirc Uí Rinn, Cork
Throw-in: 2.30pm

Tipperary v Limerick  Double-header with Round 1 All-Ireland Hurling Championship between Tipperary v Westmeath at 5.00pm
This is a crucial match in the battle for a Quarter-Final spot in group 2, with both sides hoping that they can register their first wins of the campaign. Brian Boyle’s Tipperary side were beaten by Cork in their opening match and he will be hoping they bounce back quickly with a win over their neighbours. Limerick manager John Tuohy would have been disappointed after last weekend’s comprehensive loss to Cork having already lost their opening game to Offaly.

Referee: Eamon Cassidy (Derry)
Venue: Semple Stadium, Thurles
Throw-in: 3.00pm
