Run a ‘Hurl Smart Week’ in your club and be in with the chance to bring your club Camogie under 12 team to Croke Park in August!
Just register your club’s interest, run a ‘Hurl Smart Week’, submit a report of events and you could be in with a chance to play in Croke Park.
The Camogie Association is running the annual Hurl Smart Week from the June 6th to 12th in conjunction with ChildFund Ireland and the Dream Bike Campaign.
Why not join with your local GAA club and community in getting everyone out and active for the week. Run an event every day of Hurl Smart Week and get everyone active and enjoying Camogie!
Register your club here for Hurl Smart Week to be in with a chance to go to Croke Park! Closing date for registering your interest is Monday May 23rd at 5pm.
Possible Hurl Smart Week activities that clubs could run over the week include:
Ø Bikeathon to help provide a bike for the ChildFund Dream Bike Campaign.
Ø Fundamentals sessions – incorporate agility, balance and co-ordination with fun.
Ø Camán and Run Relay races – set up teams of 4 where participants solo and handpass the sliotar to the next player in relay format. For younger players use beanbags for solo.
Ø Skills test – set up 4-5 skills with point system – similar to Féile skills test.
Ø Obstacle course – use ladders, hurdles, tyres, slalom poles to create an obstacle course for your players. Have 2 teams compete against each other.
Ø Come & Try it evening for new players – provide hurl and helmet for potential new players who try out the sport for the evening.
Ø Wigs and Wellies – fun game where one team wears wigs and plays a team wearing wellies. Each team wears the opposite for 2nd half of game.
Ø Poc Fada Course- set up a course that girls have to get around in the least amount of shots.
Ø Mum & Me/Hurl with Me programme – programme for parents to learn the skills of the game themselves and also the main coaching points of the skills so that they can assist coaches.
Ø Mixed Blitzes – run mixed underage blitzes for boys and girls in the club.
Ø Family fun day – run a day for the family at the GAA grounds. Include some fun activities such as face painting, games etc. Open to all of the community.
Ø Crossbar challenge – run the crossbar challenge with a group of older players with a prize for those who can hit the crossbar in their 3 attempts.
Ø Wall ball session – run wall ball activities for players/parents in the club- have target practice on the wall with prizes for winning teams.
Ø Talks on fitness and nutrition – club could organise someone to talk to players/parents on healthy nutrition for playing Camogie and also the fitness of young Camogie players.

Monday – Tiny tots fundamentals session and obstacle course for under 6s
Tuesday – Camán and Run solo relay race for under 14s
Wednesday – Hurl with me programme for parents of under 12s
Thursday – Poc fada competition for under 16s
Friday – Wall ball challenge for Minors/adult teams
Saturday -Bikeathon for ChildFund Dream Bike Campaign
Sunday – Family fun day for all the community
