Roscommon claimed the Gala All-Ireland Junior Nancy Murray Cup title with a three point win over Armagh today in the replay at Drumlane in County Cavan, 1-7 to 0-7. A week ago after a sluggish start they almost nicked the win, but at the second time of asking they were not going to be denied.

After suffering heartbreak in the 2008 final the Rossies finally captured the All-Ireland title and it is sure to provide a massive shot in the arm to camogie within the county.

There was little between the sides at Drumlane but a first-half goal from Claire Curley proved decisive as Armagh could not claw back the deficit. Curley was the hero again last week – her double green flags critical at a stage when Armagh looked to be in the driving seat.

The Orchard County, who were looking to get back to the New Ireland Cup grade, battled well with Laura Gribben and Emma Farrell unrelenting. Bernie Murray worked tirelessly at midfield, getting on the score-sheet with a well taken point.

Sharp-shooter Colette McSorley got six of the Armagh total but despite their excellent play and determination they could never undo the first-half damage.

Once again Kelly Hopkins was in inspirational form, playing a key role in Roscommon’s historic victory.

Meanwhile, Cavan emerged victorious in the Mßire NÝ ChinnÚide Cup following their one point win over Wicklow in the Monaghan Harps grounds on Saturday, 0-5 to 0-4.
