Seeking their first senior title since the side captured their first victory in 1993 they were well on top by the break, 2-4 to 0-4, the two Black and Amber goals coming within the space of six minutes from Denise Gaule and Anna Farrell who also had her sister, Michelle on the score board. Both Farrells are nieces of the former Kilkenny star Mairead Farrell.

Charleville were chasing their 8th senior title.  They had many players with intercounty experience with both Limerick and Cork.  But it was the the strong Callan half back line of Lisa Carey, Mairead Power and Kate Mc Donald who never allowed the Charleville forwards a sniff of the sliotar.

This was very much an all round strong Callan side with many players holdig both U16 and Minor All-Ireland medals from the past three years. With the half backs in superb form, the partnership of the Farell sisters together with captain Leanne Fennelly up front proved crucial as time and time again they found cracks in the Charleville defence where they scored a third goal midway in the second half.

When Michelle Farrell cracked home the final goal of the day midway in the second half, the writing was on the way and so Noelle O’Driscoll’s charges took home the Corn Sceilg.
