SPORT AGUS SPRAOI A BIG SUCCESS IN DCU

Over 160 girls from Dublin second level schools turned up in DCU to take part in An Cumann Camogaiochta’s Sport agus Spraoi le Colaisti event on Wednesday 30th March.  The event which aims to link up secondary schools with third level colleges in conjunction with the Local Sports Partnership and Irish Sports Council is an initiative rolled out nationally by the Camogie Association.

The DCU camogie team lead by one of its stars this year Laura Twomey, Chair of DCU camogie club, carried out coaching with the girls in the morning time and continued with a 10-a-side blitz in the afternoon.  Transition year students from various schools, who recently qualified as referees having completed the Camogie Association’s Green Card course, refereed the blitz games and received their certificates to fully qualify them to referee games from under 14 down.

All participants received boot bags and each school received a set of water bottles and sliotars.  æFingal Sports Partnership and Caitriona Geraghty have been extremely helpful and kind to us and provided some funding towards today’s event which enables us to give something back to the girls and the schools and we hope that by linking all of these bodies together that we can continue to enhance the profile of Camogie and increase the number of girls playing our game.’ stated Eve Talbot, Camogie Development Officer.
