Sports legends turn out for Camogie Golf Classic

A plethora of sporting greats were amongst the many participants at the Camogie Association Golf Classic, held at Kilkenny Golf Club this afternoon (Friday, August 13th).

Camogie legends Angela Downey, Galway’s Sharon Glynn and Wexford duo Aine Codd and Stellah Sinnott joined former Kilkenny hurling stars Pat Henderson, Noel Skehan, Eddie Keher and Ned Buggy. Wexford Camogie manager JJ Doyle was also among the crowd; taking some time out ahead of his side’s Gala All Ireland semi-final clash with the Cats.

Speaking about the event Camogie President Joan O’Flynn: “”This year’s Classic was a fantastic success with teams from all over Ireland coming to participate. It was a great opportunity for past and current camogie players and mentors, people from the wider sporting community and those with a great interest in golf to come together. We would like to thank all of those who participated and our sponsors for their fantastic support as well as Kilkenny Golf Club for hosting the event.””

MMI Group, led by Esme Murphy took first prize while an Eddie Keher led team, UL Arena took second position with John Torpey Hurls in third place.

This year’s classic took place on the eve of the Gala All Ireland semi-finals with Cork facing Galway in Nowlan Park at 2.00pm tomorrow (Saturday, August 14th) and Kilkenny facing Wexford in the second of a double header fixure at 4.00pm.
