Galway Mini Feile Festival of Camogie

Galway introduced a new initiative last weekend for under 14 camogie players – Mini feile festival of camogie.  The initiative aimed to coincide with a weekend full of Camogie activity for under 14 girls around the country participating in National and Regional Camogie feile competitions.
In terms of Camogie development, the mini feile festival of camogie ticked all the boxes. Its participation based structure contributed greatly to the enjoyment for both players and mentors with less emphasis on winning and more emphasis on development of individual and team skills.

24 teams took part in the initiative giving games to girls at a crucial age in terms of player retention. Teams travelled from Clare, Tipperary and Offaly also on the day. Main sponsors Monaghan’s Centra provided a t-shirt for all the participants of the initiative.

Camogie 4 Teens Wexford

Wexford Camogie 4 Teens were under the spotlight as they prepared for a live interview on the South East Morning Mix radio show with presenter Alan Corcoran as part of their promoting Camogie for Feile initiative. Other members were also interviewed on Tuesday’s Youth Scene including members of the First ever winning Feile team of 1974 from Rathnure. They also had an article published in the local Echo paper and they interviewed five time Feile winner and County player Una Leacy. Well done to these talented and dedicated bunch of girls.

Kildare and Meath Primary Schools’ Initiatives Finish with Mega-blitzes!

As previously mentioned in this forum, a primary schools’ developmental camogie/hurling initiative ran across 6 developmental camogie/hurling schools in Kildare (St. Brigids Kildare, Scoil Bhríde Athgarvan, Scoil na Naomh Uilig and Ballymany SPS Newbridge, Scoil Evin Monasterevan and Curragh GNS) and in Meath (Moylagh NS, Our Lady’s Kells, Realt na Mara Donacarney, St. Paul’s Navan, Dunboyne SPS and St Mary’s Enfield).

Finishing day blitzes were held in both counties for the schools, over last week and this week. Given schools commitments in June, the Kildare blitz consisted of Curragh GNS, Scoil na Naomh Uilig and St. Patrick’s Newbridge and Scoil Bhríde Athgarvan with the Meath blitz including St. Pauls Navan, Tulach na nÓg Dunboyne and Kildalkey NS. The very enjoyable blitzes in lovely conditions with over 250 children taking part were held at Hawkfield Centre of Excellence (thank you to Kildare GAA and hurling lead John Doran) and at Dunganny Centre of Excellence (thank you to Meath GAA and hurling lead Peter Durnin).

Well done to all the schools, the teachers who made it possible, for great days for the further development of the small-ball game in both counties!
