Kieran Slattery, County PRO

It was back to the boardroom this month when the County Board AGM was held. Chairman Mickey Browne welcomed all the delegates & Munster Council Development Officer Deirdre Murphy to the meeting. Speaking about activities on the field, he said that so many county teams came so close to bringing home some silverware & he felt it was only a matter of time before Tipperary would be climbing the steps of the Hogan Stand very soon. He congratulated the junior panel on their great win in the Munster Final, disposing of Cork & Limerick on their way to the title. Also, he was delighted to see how well the U14 A & B panels did this year, & the achievements  of the U16  panel on reaching the All Ireland final, & these two great team performances bodes well for the future of Tipperary Camogie.

Acknowledging the great work of all the inter county managers & selectors, he assured all the in coming management of the full support of the County Board as they go in search of glory. The club scene in the county has never been as strong, & one of the best ever senior country finals was played in the Ragg. Again, the chairman congratulated all clubs & their volunteers for all their work promoting camogie in their areas. Special mention to Cashel seniors on their fantastic display in the All Ireland club final, & the chairman expressed a view that the senior club scene in the county is probably the most competitive & strongest of all in the country.

The following officers were elected for 2010;

Chairman; Mickey Browne, (Cashel)

Vice chairman; Martin Griffin (Silvermines)

Secretary; Liza Carroll, (St. Cronans)

Treasurer; Jim Symons, (Thurles)

P.R.O.; Kieran Slattery, (Knockavilla)

Asst P.R.O.; Lar Cleary, (Annacarty)

Registrar; Bernie O Dowd, (Thurles)

Munster Delegate; Margaret Skeehan, (Thurles).

Next up was the appointment of all team managers for the coming year. Taking up the mantle of both senior & intermediate for 2010 is Eoin Brislane. Eoin was manager of the intermediate panel for 2009. Following his appointment, Eoin addressed the meeting, & thanked the delegates & clubs for their support as he takes on the biggest job in Tipperary Camogie. Eoin said that even though the task of managing both panels will be a huge undertaking, he feels that it will be beneficial to both panels to train together, as everyone will get a fair crack at wearing the Blue & Gold for the coming year. He, along with his management team are looking forward to working with the cream of Tipperary Camogie as they endeavour to win double All Ireland titles. Eoin`s selectors are Gerry Cahill (Knockavilla), Trevor Galvin (Toomevara) & Carmel Harkin (Borrisoleigh).

The manager for the U18s will be john Lillis of Drom, while Noelle Kennedy (Toomevara) will continue her work with the U16s. The U14s will be managed by Liza Carroll.

Among one of the main issues with delegates was the fixture situation in the county. Many felt that a better approach was needed for the coming year. With this in mind the newly appointed fixtures committee were charged with getting together before the adjourned convention with recommendations which may improve the overall structure of the fixtures for 2010. This committee met up last week, & some frank views were exchanged, & a productive meeting has resulted in some very strong & radical recommendations which will be posted to all clubs shortly. All these items will be discussed at the adjourned meeting & decisions will be taken & acted upon. It is extremely important for ALL clubs to attend the January meeting, as this will be the only opportunity for clubs to express their views, because some very important decisions will be made on the night. The date of the adjourned A.G.M is January 5th.

Finally, on behalf of all in Tipperary camogie, the Board would like to extend a happy & peaceful Christmas & new year to all our supporters across the County, & especially to the players & parents who continue to develop the wonderful game that is camogie.
