Sporting dreams come true for budding camogie stars

The sporting dreams of over 240 young camogie players were realised as they lined out for their counties in the Torpey Hurleys Schools of Excellence Activity Day at a sun-drenched Croke Park this afternoon (Monday July 4th).

Counties Louth, Cavan, Armagh, Westmeath, Laois, Clare, Waterford and Limerick were represented in the 2011 Schools of Excellence.

Players cheered on by family and friends enjoyed an action packed day of camogie games, coaching and nutritional information seminars. President of the Camogie Association Joan O’Flynn and Galway camogie player and All- Star Orla Kilkenny were also involved in a meet and greet sessions with participants throughout the day.

Speaking about the Torpey Hurleys Schools of Excellence President Joan O’ Flynn:

“”Today is a brilliant day for our young camogie players; their family, friends and coaches and all involved in the Torpey Hurleys Schools of Excellence.

It is the culmination of a huge amount of work for each county and I commend all of those involved for their dedication in supporting and nurturing the sporting and social development of our young players.

For the players, the Schools of Excellence Activity Day in Croke Park should serve to fuel their passion for camogie even further and inspire them to even greater things in the future.””

MD of Torpey Hurleys John Torpey said:

“”We are delighted to be on board as the title sponsor for this event and to support the development of young camogie players nationwide. Today’s event in Croke Park is a fantastic experience for all involved and I congratulate all of those who have been instrumental in ensuring the success of the Schools of Excellence.””

The Schools of Excellence were founded in 2003 and focus upon the development of young camogie players, aged 14 and under. The programme concludes, each year with an annual Activity Day, at which eight counties participate.
