On Monday May 10th, 17 women participated in the Treaty Gaels Camogie Club ‘Women in Sport Come and Try Day’ supported by Limerick City Local Sports Partnership
With the majority of women not having played camogie before it was a great opportunity to try the game and learn new skills. The women, all female relatives of the club players (mothers, aunts, sisters etc), were taught basic skills by Deirdre Murphy the Munster Camogie Development Officer.
The evening was great fun and a huge success… so much so that the group involved are setting up a weekly training session with the intention of keeping fit and honing their newfound camogie skills.
All the participants agreed that it was great to be active outdoors and it was a great chance to get some exercise while their children are training.
‘I spend so much time organising my children’s activities that there’s no time left for me’ said one of the mothers ‘ I usually wait in the car for my daughter to finish, tonight it felt great to be out in the fresh air too’.
