Despite losing a trio of stars from this year’s panel, Wexford have impressed with three wins from four and finished as runners-up in a very competitive group.

Following the departure of Kate Kelly, Mags D’Arcy and Katrina Parrock as well as some poor National League performances it looked as if the Model County may struggle this year but they’ve done anything but. Wexford manager Matty Flynn O’Connor will be delighted that he's been able to call on other players to take on the responsibility of driving the team forward.

Wexford captain Bríd Gordon spoke to us at last week’s photocall about their campaign so far, “Getting the three wins in a tough group is driving us on really and we’re just looking forward to playing Dublin on the 5th.”

Wexford opened the campaign with a hard-fought win over Offaly before getting an 18 point thrashing from a ruthless Cork team. They quickly bounced back from this however with back-to-back wins over Tipp and Limerick to secure second place in the group.
Defender Bríd Gordon is hoping the team can bring their impressive form into the Quarter-Finals, “We’ll be looking to continue on from where we let off in the Championship group stages.”

These Wexford and Dublin sides are no strangers to each other and the Yellow Bellies will be hungry for revenge having lost to the Dubs in the National League back in May. However Bríd says Wexford won’t be too bothered by that defeat, “We won’t really look into that match too much, we tried to use the league as a building block to try out different things and different players.”

Wexford face Dublin on Saturday 5th August in Semple Stadium, Thurles as part of the Liberty Insurance All-Ireland Senior Championship Quarter-Finals Double-Header with Galway playing Tipp in the other clash.
