Closing date for the 'You & Me Play Camogie' Initiative is this Wednesday the 26th March so get your entry in!
If your club would like to run a programme that encourages parents to get active themselves and also get involved in their daughters participation, this is the programme for you! This programme aims to encourage communities to lead a more balanced, healthy and active lifestyle through the sport of Camogie.
This project encourages parents of girls (aged 12-14) to come and try out the sport of camogie with their daughters. They participate in a 6 week programme where they learn the basic skills of the game while also being physically active themselves. They can then practice the skills with their daughters at home so continuing the habit of regular physical activity. Each participating club in this programme will receive a module on healthy eating for sports participation. This module is important so that both the daughters and parents realise the importance of healthy nutrition for sports performance and for general well being.
Advantages of the Programme for your club:
- The Camogie Association will provide a coach/tutor to deliver the programme for 6 weeks in your club.
- Parents are encouraged to participate in the programme and it is hoped that they continue to participate both in physical activity and as volunteers in the club after the programme is complete.
- A nutritional talk will provide information to parents and the girls on healthy eating for sports participation.
There will be 2 of these initiatives rolled out in each province in 2014.
Closing date for applications is Wednesday 26th March 2014 at 5pm. A random draw will then take place to select the participating clubs. Best of luck to all clubs!
