Player Welfare Booklet

The Camogie Association Launched it’s first Player Welfare Booklet in July 2020. The booklet is jam packed with useful resources and information for players, coaches, parents and guardians. It includes information on the Camogie Association injury prevention programme based on the GAA Activate Warm-up as well as information on the Camogie Early, Rapid and Mature Movers age-appropriate movement programmes.

These programmes were developed by the Association’s Player Welfare Co-ordinator at the time Paul O’Donovan in conjunction with researchers in Dublin City University School of Health and Human Performance led by Dr Siobhán O’Connor.

The Player Welfare Booklet also contains articles on Nutrition and Lifestyle and on Health and Wellbeing. Performance Nutritionist and founder of NutriKate, Kate McDaid provides guidance on Carbohydrate, Protein and Fat as well as Hydration and Sleep. Daragh O Conchuir details the importance of a Work Life Balance in his conversation with Galways Caitriona Cormican. Physiotherapist Risteard Byrne descripes Recovery for Camogie Players. Athletic Performance Coach Timmy Hammersley writes about Developing Emotional Wellbeing. Also included in the booklet is important information on Metal Health First Aid from MHFA Ireland and Alcohol and Sports Performance from GAA Community Health.
