WITH Newbridge and Ashbourne under water last weekend, the All Ireland club camogie finals are re-fixed for this Sunday. The senior decider involving Athenry and Cashel will take place in Clarecastle GAA grounds, while the junior final between St Anne’s of Waterford and Lavey of Derry returns to Donaghmore Ashbourne (both games 2pm).
The weather played havoc with the fixture list last Sunday, a day which was to bring the curtain down on the 2009 playing season, forcing the postponement of both games. President of the Camogie Association Joan O’Flynn said they were left with no choice but to cancel the two games, but she fully acknowledged the inconvenience on players and supporters alike.
“”I would like to thank camogie followers for their support during the year. We appreciate the effort that goes into organizing matches and that people make to attend our games. It was unfortunate we had to postpone the two finals last weekend. But, Kildare and Meath were some of the worst affected counties, and neither pitch was playable.
