Antrim Camogie has lost one of its greats with the passing of Eithne Dougan at the weekend. Eithne had a long and distinguished playing career that spanned three decades winning two Senior All Ireland Medals with Antrim and four Antrim Senior County medals with Dunloy Cuchullains.

During and after her playing days, Eithne took an active part in the administration of Camogie in Dunloy and promoted the game and Irish culture in general during her teaching career in first St. Joseph’s Primary in Dunloy and later in Our Lady of Lourdes Ballymoney.

Although domiciled in Canada for many years, she kept in touch with the hurling and camogie successes of her native parish and made regular trips home to coincide with major games for the club. Four years ago, when the Dunloy club honoured the 1955 Antrim Senior County Champions TÝ Cuchullain, she made her way home to enjoy the evening of nostalgia.
