The girls received specialised coaching from Leinster Development Co-ordinator Jenny Duffy and National Director of Camogie Mary O’Connor who are both lining out for Cork in the Gala All Ireland senior Camogie final on September 13th as well as Waterford’s Aine Lyng and Charlotte Raher who are members of the Waterford Camogie team aiming to make history in Croke Park by bringing back the New Ireland Cup for the first time.
The girls were shown the skills of the game over the course of the academy and showed tremendous application and improvement over the three days. On the final day they took part in a closely contested Skills Competition which was narrowly won by Lismore’s Ruth Geoghegan. Katie Browne from Butlerstown was a close second while Michelle Tobin from Tallow and Labhaoise Dunbar of St. Anne’s tied for third place.
They were given a presentation on Nutrition and Hydration and were given information to take home with regard to healthy eating and the best way to manage a healthy diet before, during and after exercise as well as handouts on wall ball skills to practice. All participants also received a commemorative T-Shirt.
Munster Development Coordinator Deirdre Murphy thanked Brother Spring of St. Augustine’s College and Paddy Fitzgerald, and the ground staff of Dungarvan GAA Club for the use of their excellent facilities as well as Moira Burke of Super Valu in O’Connell St. Dungarvan who provided healthy snacks of fruit and bottled water at a generous discount.
