Volunteer Safety Stewards Training

The Camogie Association are seeking volunteers to take on the role of Voluntary Safety Stewards.

Full training will be provided.

Date: Saturday 15th October 2022

Venue: Leinster Council GAA, Portlaoise, Co. Laois

Time: 9am-3pm

To be part of the match day action, the following criteria is required:

  • Aged from 18 years old
  • Available at weekends
  • Active and enthusiastic
  • Customer focused
  • An interest in Camogie and GAA would be beneficial
  • Problem solver

The main role of a volunteer safety steward is to maintain a safe and secure environment in your given area and to be familiar with the stadium ground regulations, ensuring that any breach of these regulations is brought to a safe conclusion.

  • Crowd control – side-line duty, stand vomitories, crowd management, reporting any actual or potential incidents to the relevant supervisor.
  • Emergency procedures – e.g. assisting with stadium evacuation
  • Customer care – usher and assist patrons, disability awareness assistance, direct patrons to designated smoking areas, catering units, stadium facilities and recycling banks
  • Media – assist with photographers and reporters pitch side
  • Match day miscellaneous – dressing rooms, players’ tunnel duties, etc.

Stewards will be trained and accredited by the GAA National Facilities, Health & Safety Committee.

Voluntary Stewards are not paid in monetary terms.

 

Confirmation of Steward Accreditation

For the individual to be officially accredited as a steward and receive their NHSC stewarding card, the following steps must be completed:

  • Complete and pass the NHSC Stewards Training Course.
  • Complete Garda Vetting process and submit GAA/Garda Vetting Acceptance Letter to County Secretary or designated person.
  • Steward at a minimum of 2 matches under the supervision of a competent person such as the Chief Steward, Safety Officer or a Supervisory Steward.
  • The Camogie Association require a minimum of 10 games to be stewarded at county, provincial and national level per season.
  • If the volunteer would like to steward in Croke Park an additional site-specific induction is required and the steward would then be added to ‘Camogie Stewarding pool’ which will be asked to provide volunteer for matches and concerts (Additional criteria applies).
