Hard luck to Dublin on their defeat to Kilkenny in the Gala All Ireland Senior Camogie Championship.  Despite the set-back David Kennedy, Mary McKeon, Doirin Golden and Marie O’Brien have worked trojanly with the team and there is still a Leinster Final to come against Kilkenny.

Many thanks to Ballyboden St Endas for hosting the game and to all who contributed to the refreshments.

The club championship season gets going on 19 August.

Match Report

Kilkenny 4 – 13  Dublin 1 – 7

It took all of 20 minutes for breeze-assisted Dublin to get off the mark in this final group game in the Gala All Ireland Senior Camogie Championship at Pßirc UÝ Mhurch·.  By that time a more focussed Kilkenny had hit 2 – 4 and were on their way to their third win in the competition.

Dublin did rally from thereon but the Kilkenny girls, who up until Saturday had a chance of forcing a play-off, were a step or two ahead of Dublin and notched some impressive scores.

The visitors opened with a point by Elaine Aylward after a minute and six minutes later the impressive Aoife Neary grabbed the first of two goals from the James Stephens player.  The same player struck a fine point before Elaine Aylward took a sizeable number of steps before planting the ball in the corner of the net.

Dublin’s championship season effectively ended last Saturday week and the performance reflected this disappointment.  However the hard-working Claire Donnelly struck a neat point to be followed by a pointed free by Louise O’Hara to leave the score 2 – 4 to 0 – 2 in favour of the League Champions.

A heavy half-time shower didn’t dampen Kilkenny spirits and within three minutes of the restart Sinead Milea and Elaine Aylward who was running matters from midfield had pointed.

Centre forward Bridget Mullally was in dominant form and their defence was generally sound.  A brief Dublin rally yielded a goal from Louise O’Hara (Dublin’s best forward) and a point from Danielle Smith.  But Marie Dargan, Ann Dalton and Sinead Milea had restored their advantage by the 41st minute.

Andrea Fitzpatrick shone for Dublin and while Dublin’s tried hard they should have goaled in the 43rd minute after Louise O’Hara had split the defence only to see Fiona NÝ Chorcorßin’s shot blocked.

Aisling Jordan who had been injured entered the fray and showed her quality with two fine points but another Aoife Neary goal followed by a fourth in the 54th minute from Anna Farrell put the finishing touches on a deserved win for Kilkenny
