The full forward from the county’s always progressive Markieviez Club has the improving skills ever since making an impact in the Pan Celtic games of 2006. That tournament rejuvenated camogie in Donegal.

A year ago Donegal also competed in a new All-Ireland competition with other developing counties like Monaghan and Mayo

Now, for the first time in over a decade it’s into the white heat of the Ulster Championship, with a showdown against Monaghan at stake for the title.

Manager Gavin Craig of St Eunan’s Letterkenny, is also the Hurling Development manager for the County.

He said: “”This is a step into the unknown for the girls. It will be a tough test. Unlike Tyrone, this is our first crack at this competition, and it’s great for camogie development in Donegal.’

Ciara Cullen’s club colleague Niamh Brady is team skipper. The 24 year old Killygordon Sports Instructor added: “”There is a strong hurling and camogie connection in my family. We will give it our best shot, and you never know.””

The Jordan sisters, Shauna and Maria are key performers for Tyrone. They were in the Queen’s University Purcell Cup winning team, when Maria scored 3-3 in the final. Shauna has two College All Star gongs.

Emma Fitzgerald from Derrytresk captained the St Patrick’s Academy team to victory in the Ulster æB’ Final. Michelle Fitzgerald and Emma McErlean were also in the All-Ireland semi-final loss to Christ King College of Cork.

Another very experienced operator is Maeve McGurk, who also players for the Tyrone football team.

There is a new joint team management of Ursula Jordan, Ursula Doyle and Sinead O’Neill, and they name Julie Lagan of Eglish as captain.

Making a debut as goalkeeper is former midfielder Paula Neil.

Her Eglish team-mate Brenda Horsefield has been playing in the half-forward line for Tyrone for many years and returning after a serious knee injury is 24-year-old Susan McCann. She made her senior county debut ten years ago.
