The Camogie Association in conjunction with the CCAO (Higher Education Camogie Council) awarded six Camogie players with third level bursaries at St Pat’s Drumcondra on Tuesday 12th February.
The presentations were made by Acting Ard-Stiurthoir Mary O’Connor on behalf of the Camogie Association and Shane D’Arcy, President of CCAO.
The six recipients were: Maureen Heneghan (Derry) a student at NUI Galway; University of Ulster Jordanstown duo Brona McIntrye (Antrim) and Aileen Martin (Antrim); QUB student Shauneen Donaghy (Derry). St Pat’s Drumcondra are represented by Fiona Keating (Westmeath) and Dundalk IT Student and Kildare native Tanya Johnston completes the Bursary recipients.
Speaking about the awards Ard-Stiurthoir Mary O’Connor said:
“I’m delighted to congratulate each recipient on their success. I hope the achievement of a National Camogie bursary supports each player in her academic progress and also encourages each player to continue her involvement in our game.”
President of the CCAO, Shane D’Arcy added:
“I congratulate all of the recipients and wish them well in their studies for the year ahead. There was huge interest in the national bursaries again this year but unfortunately we could only award six. I thank the Camogie Association for their funding that makes these bursaries possible as they are a fantastic way of rewarding the hard work and dedication these third level players.”
The bursaries are a welcome boost for the recipients ahead of the Ashbourne and Purcell Finals, which will take place this weekend 16
th and 17
th February in the University of Limerick.
The six recipients were awarded their bursaries on foot of an extensive application form and interview process which was conducted in December 2012.
