The Camogie Gathering event “Lets Play Ball and Have a Ball” was launched at the Mansion House on Wednesday June 12th by President of the Camogie Association Aileen Lawlor. President of the GAA, Liam O’Neill, Dublin Camogie Chairman Pat Martin and Jim Miley, Project Director of the Gathering Ireland were amongst the invited guests.“Lets Play Ball and Have a Ball” takes place on July 25th, 26th & 27th and is organised in conjunction with Dublin Camogie Board to celebrate the Gathering 2013. Toronto Camogie Club, Fullen Gaels, Manchester, Croydon and Tara Camogie Clubs, London along with a North America Representative team are confirmed to attend the tournament. Dublin Camogie clubs Na Fianna, St Vincents, St Brigids, Ballyboden St Endas and Trinity Gaels are also taking part.
Speaking at the event President of the Camogie Association Aileen Lawlor said:
“The Camogie Association in conjunction with Dublin Camogie Board is delighted to welcome members of the Camogie and Gaelic Games family to Ireland for our Gathering event, “Lets Play Ball and Have a Ball”. We are pleased to support this fantastic initiative and we are looking forward to the number of teams who are coming from Canada, the United Kingdom and North America. It promises to be a fantastic weekend of camogie with fun, friendship, community, and a shared passion for camogie with Gaelic games and Irish culture at the heart of it all.
I also want to thank Dublin Camogie Board for their strong support for this event; Na Fianna CLG as one of the host venues and also the GAA and Croke Park. The opportunity to play in Croke Park is a special one and I know that our visiting teams are really looking forward to this.”
Dublin Camogie Board Chairperson Pat Martin said:
“Dublin Camogie Board are delighted to play a part in this event. “Lets Play Ball and Have a Ball” promises to be a fantastic weekend and we are looking forward immensely to the arrival of our international teams. A busy schedule of events is in place and we hope that all of this year’s visitors will enjoy the experience.”
Visiting teams will enjoy a busy itinerary; starting with an official welcome event at Na Fianna CLG on Mobhi Road on Thursday night (July 25th). On Friday, teams will take part in a camogie skills and coaching session in Na Fianna. Later that day, they will visit Croke Park Museum and play in Croke Park. On Saturday, Na Fianna CLG is the venue for a camogie tournament between participating Dublin Camogie club teams and international teams. The tournament will conclude with a closing event that night.
“Lets Play Ball and Have a Ball” is supported by Dublin City Council, Dublin Camogie Board, O’Neills, MMI.ie and the Regency Hotel, Dublin.
