Carlow SETU South Campus and Raharney GAA Club hosted two Junior Novice Blitz days on Thursday 23rd and Tuesday, 28th April, providing a platform for developing secondary school camogie teams across Leinster.
Many thanks to both venues for once again providing their facilities and supporting the development of the game at this level.
With the sun shining brightly, both venues saw strong participation, with over 200 players in Carlow and a further 90 taking part in Raharney.
The blitz format focused on seven-a-side games and is designed as non-competitive. This format gives the schools looking to set up and develop a school team the opportunity for somewhere to play, while they are in the early stages of establishing a camogie programme. For a number of participants, it marked their first experience of camogie, hopefully they will now be encouraged to drop down to their local club and continue their involvement and growth in the game.
Schools travelled from across the province, including Wicklow, Wexford, Longford, Westmeath, Laois and Kildare, – it was brilliant to see enthused teachers and players alike.
The schools who participated included:
- Glenart (Wicklow)
- St. David’s Holy Faith (Wicklow)
- CBS New Ross (Wexford)
- Bunclody CC (Wexford)
- Coláiste Abbain (Wexford)
- Portlaoise College (Laois)
- St. Paul’s College (Kildare)
- Meanscoil Mhuire (Longford)
- Our Lady’s Bower (Westmeath)
