Wednesday 10th January 2018: Littlewoods Ireland and the Camogie Association were today joined by a host of Ireland’s top Camogie players along with ambassador, former All-Ireland winning captain and TV and Broadcaster Anna Geary as the Littlewoods Ireland Camogie Leagues were launched in style at the Irish Museum of Modern Art.

The 2018 season begins in earnest this weekend as reigning champions Kilkenny travel to Clare to begin the defence of their title as they aim to completer a famous three-in-a-row, whilst All-Ireland champions Cork begin 2018 as the team to beat with a mouth-watering clash against Galway.

This is the second year that the Camogie Leagues have had a title sponsor with Littlewoods Ireland, Ireland’s leading online department store, having announced their three-year deal with the Camogie Association in December 2016. Littlewoods Ireland launched the leagues with a unique photo-call at the Irish Museum of Modern Art, a stylish venue that provided the perfect backdrop for a partnership that continues to break new ground in the worlds of fashion and sport in Ireland. To celebrate the second year of this unique partnership,Littlewoods Ireland will be highlighting the amazing contribution that Camogie players make not only on the field but to society as a whole across Ireland.

Speaking at the iconic launch event, Littlewoods Ireland Ambassador Anna Geary commented “There was a huge buzz amongst the camogie community when Littlewoods Ireland joined up as sponsor last year.  They have brought a wonderful sense of innovation and creativity to the public perception of the game and have really sought to elevate the profile of the players and the amazing skills of the game. Personally, my style both on and off the pitch have been something I have always been proud of and over the past year I have had a brilliant time trying out new looks from the V By Very range and experimenting with my style. Since the sponsorship launched, Littlewoods Ireland has become a brand that camogie players can now relate to and is relevant to them. As we strive to encourage more girls to take up and stay in the game of camogie the support of sponsors such as Littlewoods Ireland in marketing our game to the next generation is crucial to our continued success and growth for 2018.”

Speaking about the upcoming Littlewoods Ireland Camogie Leagues, President of the Camogie Association Catherine Neary said: “I am very excited about the 2018 season and in particular the commencement of the Littlewoods Ireland Camogie Leagues which begin early this season with the first ball thrown-in on January 14th. The Leagues kickstart the intercounty season and provide an opportunity for new and established players to come together at the start of what I have no doubt will be a very competitive season for their respective county teams. All of the counties involved will be striving to make the League Finals and players and management alike will leave no stone unturned in their pursuit of the much-coveted League title and silverware.
She added; “I wish to acknowledge the support, enthusiasm and innovation of our Leagues’ title sponsor Littlewoods Ireland who added greatly to the promotion of the Leagues in their first year as sponsors in 2017 and we look forward to continuing to grow our partnership as we strengthen our relationship over the coming season with Littlewoods Ireland, and as our game continues to grow across the country and beyond.”
Littlewoods Ireland Managing Director Geoff Scully stated that; “We are thrilled to be sponsoring the National Camogie Leagues for the second year. Last year, we worked closely with the Camogie Association on a number of shared objectives to help bring this great sport to a larger audience through innovative means along with highlighting the skill and commitment of the players”.

He went on to say; “This year is no different. We want to make a meaningful impact as sponsors of the Camogie Leagues by creating a greater conversation around the game and showcasing it to more people. We are very excited about this campaign and the importance of recognising the many female role models who are playing Camogie. We hope this will help to encourage and inspire young girls to play and continue playing sport. Littlewoods Ireland will be working closely with the Camogie Association to inspire more girls to play at a grassroots level, to continue playing into their adult years, and to get more people watching the sport of Camogie.”
