The Camogie Association has launched a new programme for parents and their teenage daughters to learn the skills of camogie in their local club. “You & Me Play Camogie” is funded by the Coca-Cola Thank You Fund. The six week programme encourages parents and their daughters (aged 12-14) to learn the basic skills of camogie and avail of advice on nutrition and leading a healthy and physically active lifestyle. Applications are invited and eight clubs, nationwide, will be chosen as part of the project.
 
The Camogie Association were granted €10,000 by the Coca-Cola Thank You Fund in November 2013 to roll out “You & Me Play Camogie” during the course of this year. 
 
President of the Camogie Association Aileen Lawlor said:
 
“The Camogie Association is delighted to launch this exciting new initiative for parents and their teenage daughters. Health and well-being and leading a fun and active lifestyle are central elements of the programme and so too encouraging daughters and parents to try the sport of camogie together. We are pleased that through the Coca-Cola Thank You Fund we can offer this ambitious new programme to eight selected clubs. It builds further on the Camogie development programme that we have with units nationwide and “You & Me Play Camogie” adds another dimension to our initiatives which encourage all ages to try the sport of Camogie.” 
 
Erica Roseingrave, Public Affairs and Communications Manager of Coca-Cola HBC Ireland said: 
 
“This is a really innovative initiative by the Camogie Association which we in Coca-Cola are delighted to fund. It will enable Mums and Dads to spend time with their teenage girls while getting fit and developing new skills themselves. The programme is also aimed at raising the profile of the sport which is social, fun and healthy.”
 
Clubs can apply to be part of this programme on the Camogie Associations website www.camogie.ie. Closing date for applications is Wednesday 26th March at 5pm.

*In 2013 the Coca-Cola Thank You Fund distributed €125,000 to community and voluntary groups that developed an innovative initiative or project that encouraged communities to lead balanced and active lifestyles. Projects are to roll out during the course of 2014.
