Great achievement for Blackwater CS Lismore

Blackwater CS 2-14
Sacred Heart Tullamore 0-2

Just 12 months after winning the All Ireland senior C college’s title, Blackwater CS Lismore are on the glory trail once more. Today (Tues) in Nowlan Park, they turned in a top-class display to oust Offaly school, Sacred Heart of Tullamore.

The Lismore girls will meet St Macanissi of Antrim in what will be a momentous day for their school, in the All Ireland B final on March 14.

Blackwater CS created history last year with their boys triumphing in the All Ireland senior B hurling decider, while the girls brought back the trophy after claiming the C title. This was an unprecedented achievement.

In November 2008 the school held a magnificent double celebration which was attended by many dignitaries, among them, the Minister for Education and Science, Mr Batt O’Keeffe and Waterford hurling boss Davy Fitzgerald.

St Macanissi have worked hard to get to this final too, making tremendous progress, with three-quarters of their team made up from the junior team that was beaten in the C final last year.

Scorers for Blackwater CS: Rachel Whelan 2-0, Marie Russell 0-6, Catriona McKeown, Aoife Hannon and Michelle Tobin 0-2 each, Sarah Fenton and Ruth Geoghan 0-1 each.

Scorers for Sacred Heart, Tullamore: Jean Brady and Shauna Flaherty 0-1 each.
