All Ireland champions Wexford and finalists Cork shared six All Star awards a-piece presented tonight (Saturday, November 3rd) at Citywest with special guest, Olympian Annalise Murphy in attendance.

Wexford claimed on the double, as JJ Doyle collected the O’Neills Manager of the Year Award for the second year in succession, having led the Model County to three-in-a row All Ireland titles earlier this September.

Wexford’s defensive lynchpins, Claire O’Connor, Catherine O’Loughlin and Deirdre Codd collected awards as did forwards Katrina Parrock, Kate Kelly and All Ireland Final player of the match Ursula Jacob.

Meanwhile, for Cork, Gemma O’Connor collected her seventh All Star while the Mackey sisters, Pamela and Katrina became the first twins to win Camogie All Stars. Goalkeeper Aoife Murray, midfielder Jennifer O’Leary and forward Briege Corkery also joined their team-mates. Offaly, who reached this year’s semi-final were rewarded with Sheila Sullivan receiving an accolade at corner-back while Galway duo, midfielder Niamh Kilkenny and centre-forward Niamh McGrath, were their side’s representatives on the 2012 team.

Speaking at tonight’s event President of the Camogie Association Aileen Lawlor said:

“It is a great honour to present this year’s All Star and Soaring Star Awards. Congratulations to all forty-five nominees for the All Star awards; to the chosen team of fifteen as well as the recipients of the eighteen Soaring Star awards. The Camogie All Stars in association with O’Neills are an event where our top class athletes are honoured and acknowledged on a national stage for their enormous contribution to camogie throughout the year.

The All Star and Soaring Star awards are held in very high esteem and the competition for places shows us how greatly they are valued.

Congratulations to JJ Doyle on his second successive Manager of the Year award. He has helped write Wexford into the history books, achieving their third senior camogie All Ireland in a row in 2012. It is a tremendous achievement for JJ.
Sincere thanks to our sponsors O’Neills for their wholehearted support for the All Star awards, now in their ninth year. We value your enormous contribution to the promotion and development of camogie and look forward to our continued partnership.”

Cormac Farrell, Marketing Manager of O’Neills said:

“As title sponsor of the 2102 Camogie All Star awards, O’ Neills Irish International Sports Company congratulates the Camogie Association on another very successful season.
