As the Irish Olympics team prepare for this weekend, the exploits of two leading female athletes are foremost in the minds of those in Kilcoole & Fergal Ogs Camogie Club, Wicklow.
Katie Taylor, World Boxing Champion and former Irish soccer international previously lined out as an eleven year old for Fergal Ogs Camogie club in Ballywaltrim, South Bray. The 26 year old has huge support, particularly in her home town of Bray as well as nationwide.
A former Kilcoole Camogie star, now treading the Olympic path is Fionnuala Britton, European Cross Country Champion who will represent Ireland in the London games in 3 events: 10,000m, 5,000m and 3,000m Steeplechase.
This is Britton’s second Olympics as she also competed in Beijing. The DCU athlete played Camogie for many years with Kilcoole Camogie Club in Wicklow where she won an Under 14 Championship. She continued playing at U16 level and represented the club at adult level. She competed in the Clane Camogie 7s and she played for County Wicklow in the 1995 National League campaign.
Best wishes to both this weekend
