Clanmaurice of Kerry collected the AIB Munster Junior Camogie Club title after a 3-7 to 0-5 win over Murroe/Boher in Rathkeale on Sunday, October 12th.
Murroe started well and had two pointed frees from captain Niamh Richardson after ten minutes. Clanmaurice slowly came into the game and through Olivia Dineen they rattled the net on fifteen minutes. Five minutes later, they struck again with Jessica Fitzell from a long range shot hitting the back of the net leaving the score 2-0 to 0-2. Clanmaurice, through captain Patrice Diggin slotted over two frees with Fitzell and Aoife Fitzgerald also contributing.
The second half continued in the same vein for the Kerry girls, with centre back and player of the match Niamh Leen controlling the flow. Murroe to their credit tried every trick, but were suffocated by a superb defence every time they threatened with Niamh Richardson their lone scorer who pointed the only two scores of the half for the city side from placed balls.
Clanmaurice put the tie to bed with frees from Diggin and a brace of 1-1 from Fitzgerald. Clanmaurice having suffered so many defeats at the penultimate stage of competitions worked like a team possessed to capture the title. They will now play London's Tara club in the AIB Junior All Ireland Club Quarter-final. TIme, Date & Venue tbc.
