Clare Camogie Elite Coaching Acadamy

40 girls took part in the Coaching Acadamy run by Clare Camogie and Munster Development Officer, Deirdre Murphy, last week.  The camp was run over three days in Clareabbey and had Davy Fitzgerald, Mary O’Connor and Colin Lynch as head coaches on one day each.
Davy lead the camp on Tuesday and worked with the girls on concentration, striking and first touch hurling.  He was assisted on the day by Cian Dillon, Fiona Lafferty and Deirdre Murphy.  The girls also worked on shooting drills and combination play.
Mary O’Connor of Cork who has three All-Stars lead the camp on Wednesday and focused on defensive work such as hooking, blocking and marking.  Conor Cooney and Laura Linnane were also coaching on the day and the girls also looked at goal scoring and combination play again.
Colin Lynch led Thursday’s session and here girls looked at the technical aspects of play with hand passing, long striking, hurley control, and qualities needed by players in development and standards of inter county play.  Cian Dillon and Fiona Lafferty were also present on the day and again the issues of scoring, and defensive play were looked at as well as ball wall drills with Deirdre Murphy.
All who attended the camp were very happy with the three days work, while the weather could have been better great use was made of the experiece avaliable to the girls from the camp and will be put to good use for the coming season.
