Tipperary 0.07  Clare 2.06

Clare were coming into this competition with a new panel but bouyant after winning the National League, Division 2 Final the day before. Tipp were coming full of hope & promise after showing improvement in previous games.
Clare were first out of the traps with an immediate attack causing some uncertainty in the Tipp goalmouth which gave Clare`s Ciara O Leary an easy tap in for the game`s first goal.Clare registered another point before Tipp started to mount some pressure, which on other days would have given the home side the lead, but somehow the ball would not cross the Clare goal line. Aine Nic Cormick in the Clare goal was superb throughout the game & when the Tipp forward line tried to beat her she was able for the task. Tipp had the advantage of a crosswind but never used it to their advantage, only managing 4points to Clare`s 2.03 at half time. One outstanding performance from Tipp was Laura Green`s brilliant display at wing back. She broke down the Clare attack & launched numerous Tipp ball into the Clare defence & worked well with Brid Byrnes at mid field.
The resumption in the second half saw Tipp struggle with the wind but were able to limit Clare`s attacks with good displays from the defence. The Tipperary forwards started to challenge again but the Clare goalie bounded about to deny the much needed goal for Tipp. A sense of urgency came into the Tipp game after they registered their first score of the half in the 23rd minute. Two more well taken points were notched up but not enough to make an impact in the Clare tally. Clare were hungrier for the game throughout. The All Ireland competition now awaits the Tipp team later in May.
A minutes silence was observed before the game in memory of 19 year old Enid Loughlin from Clare who died tragically during the week after a short illness. Enid was a very promising player with Clare Camogie & everyoune associated with Tipp Camogie would like to extend their sympathies to Enid`s family.
