DOUGLAS SHADE IT IN THRILLER

Douglas 4-5 Ballincollig 3-7

An exciting finish to this Tower View Developments 2007 minor camogie champion’s final as Douglas had to call on all their experience to edge out Ballincollig by the narrowest of margins. Douglas led by nine points at the half time whistles but Ballincollig played with their hearts on their sleeves in the second half as they fought  back to get on level terms with seven minutes remaining.  A goal from Julia White and a point from Katriona Mackey helped Douglas shade it in the finish despite a late Holly Coomey’s goal for Ballincollig.

Douglas had a good start and seemed in control with two Katriona Mackey points and one from Julia White. White struck again with a goal, twenty three minutes into the game. A second goal from Ciara Clarke and a Katriona Mackey point had stretched their lead before Sarah Buckley pointed a Ballincollig free four minutes from the break. Douglas  2-4 to 0-1 at the break

Ballincollig gave it everything from the restart and four unanswered points from Samantha and Holly Coomey, Margaret O Sullivan and Patricia Buttimer now saw Ballincollig take control but still they trailed. Douglas battled hard but the Ballincollig challenge continues as they matched Douglas step for step. Holly Coomey narrowed the gap with a goal before Patricia Buttimer with a Ballincollig point had the margin down to one.
Douglas with their backs to the wall battled back Julia White set up Katriona Mackey for their third goal the margin was again at four. Ballincollig replied with goal from Samantha Coomey and a Margaret O Sullivan point as they drew level. Ballincollig now battled to get ahead but Douglas held firm, with seven minutes remaining Julia White had them back in front with a goal, Mackey stretched it to four points but again Ballincollig hit back however Holly Coomey’s goal came to late as Ballincollig’s brave attempt just fell short after an exciting contest where both sides gave it everything in quest of the title.
