Waterford IT were eventual winners of the “A” Final, with Mary I, Limerick winning the “B” and Trinity the “C”. A great day’s camogie was had by all and a great introduction to third level camogie for these first year students. Colleges who participated are: Maynooth, Mary I, Trinity, UL, WIT, DCU, CIT, NUIG, DIT, Marino, It Tallaght, It Blanchardstown and IT Carlow.
A big thank you to DCU for organising and hosting the event. What a start to a busy season ahead. Keep up to date with upcoming fixtures and results on Twitter or Facebook @3rdLevelCamogie.
Roscommon Host Mini Speed Leagues in Primary Schools
Roscommon Camogie hosted a hugely successful mini speed league day in Lusnamult, Roscommon on Tuesday October 16th.
This brand new initiative was the first of its kind in Roscommon. All schools were invited to the event which had an 'established schools' and a 'developing schools' element with school competing at their own level.
The schools were split into three even groups.
A Ballymurray B Gaelscoil A C Lisaniskey A
D Mt Feevagh E Coman’s Wood A F Tisrara
A Tulsk B Gaelscoil B C Lisaniskey B
D Athleague E Coman’s Wood B F Knockcroghery
A Castleplunkett B Tarmon C Curraghboy
D Boyle 1 E Boyle 2 F Boyle 3
Group one played a series of 7 a side games set out on mini pitches.
Group two received some coaching on the fundamentals of the games from the Brian Griffen (ex-Roscommon Senior Camogie Manager) with Niall Healy (ex Galway Senior hurler) assisting.
Group three worked on the wall ball with James Heffernan (Camogie Youth Coordinator) and All Ireland Hurling medal winner,  Davey Glennon.
Each group rotated after 40 minutes so each girl got a chance to play games, learn some new skills and get some new ideas on wall ball activities which they could bring into their own practices.
The referees were all members of the All Ireland winning Roscommon U14 panel.
Each school had their pictures taken with the Roscommon All Ireland winners plus the All Ireland U14 Cup and they also got a picture taken with the county hurlers. The schools also received a goodie bag with a few Camogie goodies for each girl that took part. With over 170 girls taking part it proved to be a really enjoyable day for all involved with each girl got a chance to compete at her level.
Huge thank you to Noel Dervan (Roscommon Cumann na mBun Scoil) and John Mullins (Connacht Camogie) for coordinating the event, thanks to each and every school and every player that took part, to our excellent referees from the Convent Roscommon, to James Heffernan, Brian Griffen, Niall Healy and Davey Glennon. Huge thanks to Roscommon Gaels for the use of their facilities.
