Camogie Association Run Skill Assessment Workshop
On Saturday 3rd February, the Camogie Association ran a skill assessment workshop in St Patricks High School, Keady. The workshop was open to club coaches (U8, U10 and U12) from Armagh, Cavan, Louth and Monaghan. On the day Niall Williams, the Camogie Association Coach Education and Development Co-ordinator, took coaches through a variety of age-appropriate skill assessments for girls playing U8, U10 and U12 Camogie. All of the coaches found the workshop extremely beneficial, the only complaint was that the workshops weren’t on every week. The teams that are involved will also be taking part in a Blitz in Keady on 24th February.

Munster Development Officer Workshop
As part of our ongoing commitment to providing support and training to county officers, the Camogie Association and the Munster Council teamed up to host the first of a series of County Development Officer workshops on Tuesday 6th February @ Mallow GAA.

Officers were taken through the role description and procedures required for the position, the national development plan and focus areas for the year, shared ideas and experiences of what programmes are working well in their counties as well as looking at ways in which we could improve existing provision.

A big thank you to Mallow GAA for the facilities, Munster Council for all the help and support and all the attendees for travelling on a freezing cold night!

Kildare & Meath Primary Schools Initiative
The Kildare & Meath Primary Schools initiative has continued during the winter and recommenced in the new year. A programme of coaching across 6 mornings in the following schools over a 6-week period has been completed or is in progress across that timeframe.  Coaches Deirbhile Byrne, Lizzy Broderick, Eamon O’Callaghan and Ted Walsh have been very busy with these introductory camogie sessions and they have been very well received in each school. The programme was completed in St. Paul’s Navan, Our Lady of Mercy Kells, Scoil Naomh Barra Wilkinstown, Scoil Bhríde Kilcullen, Scoil Mhichíl Naofa Athy, Scoil Bhríde Milltown, and are also in progress at Carnaross NS, Kilskyre NS, Curragh GNS and Scoil Phádraig Naofa Athy. The girls and boys have really enjoyed the great fun and enjoyment created by the coaches at each of the sessions. Strong links are being forged between these schools and local clubs; indeed, Athy Camogie brought 5 of their top young players into Scoil Mhichíl Naofa on the final day of the coaching term, bringing their county minor and u21 cups with them. This proved to be very positive with the young girls who are now following on with further evening training sessions provided by the Athy club.
