Dublin IT produced a strong second-half performance to take victory against IT Tralee in the final at Cork IT on Sunday lunchtime.
With the game level at 1-1 to 0-4 at half-time, DIT increased the tempo several notches after the break, with IT Tralee able to offer little in the way of resistance, with player of the tournament Jane Dolan putting in a fine performance for the victors.
And DIT got the perfect start to the game too, Noelle Corrigan finding the net inside 30 seconds, planting home the rebound after Aileen O’Loughlin’s shot was saved after a good run.
Unfortunately for them, however, they could not build on that, a long-range Dolan free in the 10th minute their only other score of the half while, though captain Joelenne Hoary did go close with another goal chance shortly before the break.
In contrast, Orlaith Murphy was on fire for Tralee, sending over four points and being unlucky with a couple of others, while Mairead Fitzgerald’s goalbound effort was put out for a 45.
That left things nicely poised as the sides turned around, but while DIT improved, Tralee seemed to come to a standstill, Danielle Sheedy registering their only score of the 30 minutes.
With Dolan pulling the strings around midfield, DIT really imposed themselves on the game, Hoary and Cathy Bowes others to get their names on the scoresheet as they clinched victory.
