Douglas 8-5 Courcey Rovers 2-1

Douglas took the Cork Feile Na NGael Division 1 camogie title and will represent Cork at National Feile Na NGael as they swept aside the challenge of a gallant Courcey Rovers side on Friday last in Ballinlough
Claire Shine had an early point but Douglas found the going hard against a Courcey defence who worked hard to hold them at bay. Eleven minute into the game Alex Hourihane first times to the net in a crowded goal mouth to stretch the Douglas lead, but Courcey’s settled and created plenty of chances but failure to convert proved costly as they battled for an opening score. With Julie Mulcahy and Aoife Keating working hard they enjoyed plenty of possession but they lacked the killer touch as Douglas weathered several attacks to hold their lines.
With the half time whistle looming Aisling Fox and Claire  grabbed Douglas goals Shine but Courcey Hannon kicked the ball past the Douglas keeper Siobhan O Mahony two minutes into injury time to boost her sides as  Douglas leadi3-1 to 1-0 at the break.
Courcey cut the deficit early in the second half Aisling Moloney finishing a free to the roof of the Douglas net inside three minutes of the restart and now just four points separated the sides. Courcey came in search of more but Douglas stood firm Aoife Downey grabbing a point before a goal from Aisling Fox saw them open up an eight point advantage.
Courcey’s found it hard to match the physical strength of the Douglas up front mid fielder Shannon Dempsey was now operating at full forward after receiving a hand injury and as she helped herself to 3-1 the Courcey challenge began to fade.
Laura Coomey  struck a Douglas goal to which Courcey’s reply with an Aoife Keating point and now with the Douglas defence in total control Courcey’s could find way through.
Shannon Dempsey Douglas was named as player of the match
