Dublin Camogie team are aiming for further honours when they face Westmeath in the All Ireland Junior A Final in association with RTÉ Sport at Donaghmore Ashbourne while Kerry face Carlow in the All Ireland Junior B decider at Lattin Cullen, Co. Tipperary with both games taking place on Sunday September 2nd.
President of the Camogie Association Aileen Lawlor was joined by Dublin captain, Elaine Gallery; Westmeath’s Jemma Egan; Elaine Ryall of Kerry and Carlow’s Tara Wilson at Croke Park for this morning’s photocall.
Dublin captured the Irish Daily Star League Division Four title earlier in the year and will be intent on adding more silverware but face formidable opposition against a resolute Westmeath outfit.
Kerry Camogie team are also aiming to create their piece of sporting history. The Munster side made a welcome return to competitive inter-county adult camogie after a break of almost thirty years. Their championship journey has been followed weekly by the RTÉ Radio 1 John Murray Show with a pre-All Ireland broadcast due tomorrow (Wednesday, August 29th) between 9.00am and 10.00am and coverage of the All Ireland Junior B final due to be broadcast the week of September 4th.
Speaking at this morning’s photocall President of the Camogie Association Aileen Lawlor said:
“Sunday’s finals are of huge significance to all concerned with a coveted All Ireland title on offer. The meeting of Dublin and Westmeath is an intriguing encounter as both sides are extremely familiar to one another while the clash of Kerry and Carlow is another exciting prospect.
What is most pleasing though is the development of the game in all four counties. It has been highlighted that Kerry has made a return to inter-county adult camogie and their exploits this year, have been supported by recent under-age success. In addition, huge strides have been made in Westmeath and Carlow with both counties building on solid league campaigns, while Dublin Camogie has found a renewed source of energy this season, as evidenced by recent results at this grade. I would like to wish all teams the very best for Sunday and also acknowledge the tremendous support of our associate partner, RTÉ Sport.
