History was made in the summer of 2007 when Europe got their first ever camogie team together and entered in the Gala Junior All-Ireland championship in Mayo (the Maire Ni Chinneide Cup) battling it out with Counties Mayo, Donegal, Carlow and Monaghan.

This team are travel bound shortly when they will travel to London to add a truly international flavour to the 7-a-side Tournament hosted by the Tara Club of London.

Europe’s team comprises of players drawn from GAA clubs in Belgium (Brussels), Luxembourg, France (Paris), and Switzerland (Zurich) and is made up of players of various nationalities – English, Swiss, American – as well as Irish.  Most players have only taken up the sport in the last few years with just a few having previously played camogie back in Ireland.

Saturday 29th March sees the first match of the season for the Europeans as they send a team to London to participate in a 7-a-side camogie tournament hosted by Tara Camogie Club at Tir Chonaill Park, Greenford. A panel of 10 players will travel to London hailing from Brussels, Zurich and Ireland.  Luxembourg will be missing on this trip, many of them being dual players who will be taking part in the first round of European Ladies Football Championship in The Hague on the same date.

Although the Europe girls will not have had the chance to train together before this outing, team morale is at a high on this first taste of the season to come.

With the European theme kept very much to the forefront, Europe’s strip is what else but blue, yellow and stars!
