Inaugural OZO Dublin U14 blitz report

The weather treated the large crowd to its normal summer delights with heavy rain in the morning followed by glorious sunshine in the afternoon turning up the heat for the finals. 114 girls represented Dublin at U14 & U 13 level on the day and another 297 proudly travelled from the Counties Tipperary, Cork, Kilkenny, Kildare, Meath, Wicklow and Waterford. In total 411 players took part and were accompanied by parents, grandparents, siblings and mentors who were all fed and watered throughout the day with plenty to spare. Thanks to all the Dublin parents for supplying the sandwiches and drinks.

St Brigids GAA has fantastic facilities for holding such events and the organising committee would like to thank them for their hospitality both on the day and when the Dublin squads train there.

In the spirit of fair play, each girl competing received a lovely medal as a memento of day, with both a cup and a shield competition running at each section (there were 3 sections) to ensure that there was not only pride to play for but silverware also. The trophies were shared with 5 counties taking home a trophy. It was obvious to see that camogie is getting stronger across the counties at this underage level.

Camogie was definitely the winner on the day and below are the result of each section. Well done to all the teams who travelled to Dublin on the day and we can confirm that this blitz will take place again on the 16th of July 2011, so let that be a date for the diary.
