JAMES HURLEY u14 BLITZ @ MALLOW Sat 5th June  2010

Enthusiasm and participation were key contributing factors for the success of the 11th Annual James Hurley u14 All Ireland Blitz played at a sundrenched Mallow venue on Saturday.

18 teams played in a series of round robin games, competing for the A, B and plate titles. John Hurley, brother to the late Chairman James, commented on the organisation and sheer volume of the event and expressed delight that Dublin were crowned victors for their first ever win at this level. Cork Colleges (5), Galway (4), Kilkenny (1) have previously annexed the title but Dublin, coached by Paul Beecher, were deserving winners.

Cork selector Prionsias Creedon stated that he can scarcely remember any of the previous competitions having so many A teams with the potential to win, citing the unpredictable nature of the results as they emerged during the proceedings.
Cork Colleges B squad won their 4th successive title, whose shrewd puck out strategy coupled with clever inside forward team play provided them with an essential edge over a fancied Wexford in the final.

In the plate, Dublin u14B made it a double for the well organised panel. Commenting on their success, former Cork minor star Joan Twomey, now based in Dublin, stated that the Dublin Camogie board has been contributing considerable finance towards development for many years with development squads, supporting primary, secondary and third level coaching, using experienced coaches to mentor new coaches in the county panels and a dedicated finance committee to ensure its continuity.

All players were delighted with the James Hurley program and eagerly await further blitzes, coordinated by Munster Camogie Council, in Galway (4th July), Portmarnock (17th July), Waterford (7th August) and the Orla McDonagh in Thurles (28th August).
