Jersey name to boost player recognition

This year’s Gala All Ireland Camogie Finals represents a first for camogie as both the Senior and Intermediate teams have printed each player’s name on their team jersey.

Senior finalists Galway and Wexford along with Intermediate contenders Offaly and opponents Wexford have placed the names of their players on the reverse of the team jersey. It will correspond to the team line outs contained in the match programme.

It is anticipated that this development will serve to increase player recognition amongst spectators and media alike.

Uachtarßn Cumann Cam¾gaÝochta Joan O’Flynn commented: “”Sunday’s innovation of incorporating players’ names on their All Ireland jerseys is a specific effort by the Camogie Association to further promote our star players to the public and the media. It also adds to the status of the jersey and makes it a unique memento for each individual player.””

The Gala All Ireland Camogie finals see Wexford and Galway play each other, for the first time, in a senior All Ireland camogie final. Meanwhile, Offaly under the guidance of Joachim Kelly play their third All Ireland Final in a row against this year’s National League Champions Wexford.

Waterford, last year’s Premier Junior finalists are hoping to make their second chance count when they take on Ulster queens, Antrim in the Premier Junior final at twelve noon.
