Cross Border Junior Tournament
On Saturday last (28th September), 4 developing club teams travelled to Naomh Eamann in Co.Laois for the Cross-Border Tournament Day. This followed on from a successful initial year in 2018 and 2019 did not disappoint. This may idea was to offer new/developing adult Junior teams to have a place to play for developing the game and giving extra game time to the players.
Burren Rangers and Setanta from Carlow and hosts Naomh Eamann were joined this year by Naomh Brid, Ballyraggart. With 3 group games each, the Shield Final resulted in a Carlow derby with Burren Rangers coming out on top in that one. In the Cup final Naomh Brid came back strong in the latter stages of the first half to go into the break a point up. It was a helter-skelter second half that followed and with a goal sealing it for the hosts, Naomh Eamann came out eventually winners on the afternoon on a score-line of 1.3 to 1.1.
Presentation of trophies and medals were made to the winning teams in both and a player of the tournament award was presented also to Karen Delaney from Naomh Brid marking her contribution to the day’s games. A dozen sliotars were also presented to Setanta club for their efforts throughout the day also. Well done to all who participated, travelled and made the effort for the day that was in it. Many thanks to Castletown GAA for the use of the facilities and to the committee within who organised food and refreshments for all teams pre and post-match. We look forward to building this tournament in the coming years.
